A dry riser is a system of valves and pipework which enables the fire service to pump water to the upper floors of a building. A wet riser is a system of valves and pipework which is permanently charged with water.
Dry riser testing is a legal requirement dictated by BS9990 which is the British Standard that details the requirements of a dry riser test and maintenance visit, every 12 months a water test should be conducted to bar 12 for 15 minutes.
